Detailed description of Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, Champions Course

Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, previously named East Valley Golf Course is a Public 36-hole golf facility. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses. They are Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, Champoins Course and Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, Legendss Course. Home of the Southern California PGA The Champions and The Legends-What better terms describe two world- class courses with each hole named after one of golf's greatest champions or most celebrated legends. The golf course facility was purchased by Morongo Casino in the Fall of 2010.

The courses that are now Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon opened for play in 2000. The courses were designed by architects Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley.

The Champions layout features gently rolling terrain and is distinguished by its open, native feel and rugged natural bunkering. The Champions Course at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon plays to 7,377 yards from the tips and is a par-72 layout. The course rating is 76.5 and the slope rating is 141. Playing from 5,274 to 7,377 yards, the Champions track designed in a more traditional parkland style has rolling tree-lined fairways and greens of medium size and varying speed.

The Legends is a charming loop with riparian streams and flush with oak woodlands. It features a more classic style of bunkering. The Legends Course at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon plays to 7,442 yards from the tips and is a par-72 layout. The course rating is 76.6 and the slope rating is 144. The Legends is a links-styled track that plays from 5,169 to 7,442 yards. The rolling fairways are generally open, and lead to medium sized greens of varying speed.

Both courses offer five sets of tees to challenge golfers of all handicaps and skill levels.

I played this course for the first time in at least 10 years due to receiving a bargain rate from More Golf, an on-line service with discounts for golf courses, especially what I call "high end" golf courses. I thoroughly enjoyed my round, in spite of a disastrous 7 on a par 3. I played the course in the winter so the weather conditions were ideal. In the summer it would be a greater challenge due to the heat in Beaumont. The staff was especially helpful and offered us the option to go out earlier than the time we had reserved so we would be playing ahead of a group of college age golfers who were participating in a 36 hole tournament that day.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Played this course on the same day as playing the other 18 holes - the Legends. Of the two, I prefer the Legends. However, I am being a bit picky since if this course was all by itself, I would still rank it very high. The front nine goes out in the same direction as the Legends and appears very similar but the holes are not quite as dramatic. The back nine heads out towards a housing development and while the holes are still good, you don't get the same feel. Regardless, this is a challenging and fun course with sloping greens and nice bunkering. We did have a slow round and would have liked to have seen a bit more aggressive urging by the marshall to speed things up but the course had very high rough and that slowed things down. Still, a great course and worth the price! Also, this course has a super practice facility!

I recently played a three some and found the rates have been jacked up to $49. The pro shop would not honor a gift certificate from the previous owner of the course which is not right. When we went to first tee on the Champions, a two some was behind us so we told them to play in front of us. The starter then added a single player to the group. As they were teeing off, the starter added another single to make it a foursome. Turns out none of the four should be playing this course but a miniature golf course instead. Hit the button several times for an attendant to show up and about 5 holes later they did. Didn't matter because we had to skip a hole to continue our play. The greens were not in good shape either. I will never play here again!

Overall course was in very poor shape. Had an advertised price that was not honored at pro shop even through we called ahead and confirmed price. Everyone from pro shop, golf cart area, clubhouse, food/bar facilities are very customer Unfriendly. Would never go back

Grass disease has infected this course as it does every year when the weather gets hot and humid. Each year it gets worse. Huge areas in the fairways and around the greens where the grass has died in baseball size spots mixed in with baseball size clumps of grass. Your ball will usually find the bare spots so it's a little like hitting out of a shallow gopher hole. This will get better as the weather cools, but for now, October, it makes for a very shoddy course. Green fees should be discounted, but they just raised them, go figure.

I was playing in a tournament. I had missed placeed my cell phone on the tee, but returned in 5min. to retrieve it. Friends in the group behind us indicated that a course employee had picked up my phone. I thought great, what a relief and, went to the club house to retrieve my phone. Now for the shocker, the employee had not turned in the phone. Four witnesses saw the worker take myphone, thats called theft.

Today we had a 6:50 AM starting time. We got to the 13 hole (around 9:20 AM) and we were approached by the course marshal who told us we had to hold our position due to a scramble tournament starting on hole 14. Heck. the players were not yet on the course. When I made the tee time and when we paid for our golf, there was no mention thatwe would have to play a 2 1/2 round or get caught up in a scrample tournament delay.

If I were talking with the course owner i would ask for a refund for services not rendered. The younq smart mouth so called club pro. should watch his mouth with your paying golfers and stand by asssumed course agreements, a paying cutsomer gets to play a complete round. Reimbursment of the phone, replacement cost to replace $300.00 and firing of the thief would also seem in order.

To say that I had a bad experience would be to soft.

I recommend you not waste your time, money, and love of the game on Morongo Golf Club

The Champions course at Morongo is a great course to compete on. The first 5 holes kind of lull you to sleep and then bang you had better be striking it pure and long, even from the whites. Although there are houses near the course they aren't actually on the course. The views are very nice with the mountain range to the north. Over all this is a great course for the money. The new owners are taking better care of this wonderful facilites.

Sand traps are mostly hard packed dirt/small rocks, except there was sand in the bunkers on the 18th? Played it in a tournament from the whites not too long and the course was in overall great shape. Tournament low score was 16 under w/out "Mulligans." I would consider this a good course for internmediate golfers should score bogey - par from this distance.

We play here a lot. Love the 2 courses. Worth driving 200 mi round trip from simi valley. Hope they don't build anymore houses near the courses. Otherwise they are going to ruin the scenic quality of this club. Since the Morongo folks took over there has been a dramatic improvement in the entire facility .. Food, golf courses, service. For the money this place is wonderful .

My only real complaint is that the bunkers have heavy river sand that forms a crust when wet and makes the shots less than ideal. Otherwise the course is a good value. The course could add more trees for a better ambiance.

I play this about every two months when the price is competitive. The track is competitive; for some, too difficult. Right now, some bunkers really need some good sand; some are okay. The course name is now East Valley, because PGA sold it. Let's hope that the condition doesn't deteriorate. In January, they're supposed to get new carts. And I've heard that they are going to improve the bunkers soon. One other course in Calimesa is in much worse condition, but I still play it, too. The Palm Springs area charges too much for locals to play, save Tahquitz Creek, the course that honors its year-round players with a reasonable green fee and amenities.
